This week Members marked the launch of the ALT Members Group in Northern Ireland, celebrated Open Education Week and contributed a session on CMALT to the Jisc Digifest.

Video has quickly become a dominant learning and communications medium. Panopto, a provider of video management, lecture capture, and flipped classroom software for the education market, recently commissioned new research in partnership with youth trend experts Voxburner to find out what students think about technology and video for learning. More than 500 university students, from 135 different UK higher education institutions from across the HE sector, took part. Registration is now open for this annual one-day event. The theme is Learning Design: Integrating Learning, Teaching and Student Support; the event explores new directions and developments in distance education and technology-enhanced learning. With a strong research focus, it incorporates outputs from the CDE’s programme of Teaching and Research Awards. The community of practice gives people an opportunity to network, share practice, hear what various institutions are doing and what Jisc is doing in this space. Presented by Helen Beetham, consultant. The Jisc 'Digital student experience' survey has been developed over three years, first through research reviews, original research and consultation with students, and subsequently through extensive user trials (ca 30k student users) and factor analysis of the survey instrument. The volume and quality of data collected offer huge opportunities for research into the learner experience, nationally and internationally. Which of those opportunities are valid and valuable? What kind of research questions can (and should) be asked?
